Gift Cards For Many Mothers!

May 10th, 2012 by No comments »

These days it‘s hard to suggest gift cards to people on the internet without sounding like Twitter spam. However, Mother’s Day is approaching and let’s face it: many of you will be stuck wondering what to get her. Although some think gift cards are a copout or impersonal, by allowing mom to order online or go pick something out, you can ensure she gets something she really wants. In addition, a gift card that requires physical travel to redeem means you and her can make a day out of it! But, in that case more choices must be made: where should the gift card be from?

The answer is easy. Finding the right gift card just means picking out her passion:

The Interior Decorator

Does mom love wall hangings, trinkets, and pillows? Does she love shopping for new mirrors and figures to place on shelves? If so, a gift card to Pottery Barn,, or World Market would be perfect. From baskets to vases to wine racks, they have all sorts of products to suit home design needs.

The Shoe-a-Holic

By nature, most women love shoes, unless your mom paints the town red barefoot. And in that case, a gift card for some footware is pressing. Zappos and Shoebuy are great places to buy affordable, quality shoes. Are online shoe pictures not convincing enough? Zappos also offers videos of women modeling the shoes for sale.

The Crafter

If mom is a DIY kind of lady, there are gift cards to match every hobby from painting to sewing. With gift cards for,,, or Blick Art Materials, you can find something that suits her interests.

The Gardener

Mother’s Day falls during a month of nice weather. If flowers, plants, or crops are what you see in mom’s backyard, it follows to present her with a gift card from, or Gardener’s Supply Company. Who knows, you may even find yourself out working with her.

The Beverage Gal

Most need a hot cup of coffee or tea, both when they wake up in the morning and get home from work at night. Coffee and tea can be bought online with gifts cards from The Tea Emporium or Coffee For Less. If mom loves a drink every so often, she is sure to love a Berkely Wine Company gift card as well.

The Busy Bee

Does mom work hard and not set enough time aside to relax? Treat her with a trip to the spa with a Spa Week or SpaFinder. Better yet, enter our own Spa-tacular Mom Sweepstakes for a chance to win a $100 Spa Week gift card! If you’re in need of a little R&R yourself, why not buy an additional eGift card so you can go together?

Whether the gift card is redeemable on or offline, let mom choose what she wants. Use the opportunity to help her pick something out or enjoy her hobby with her. Go in the garden, learn to sew, or try her favorite tea. She’ll love it.

The Gift of Giving: Help Us Select a Charity To Donate $100 To

March 6th, 2012 by No comments »

We recently heard about a little girl named Ella who loved her puppy more than anything in the world. Ella was turning 5 years old and decided that in lieu of gifts, she would ask her party-goers to donate to the Humane Society in her name to help all the puppies who weren’t as lucky as hers. With the help of Charity Choice gift cards, this month, we are striving to be a bit more like Ella. We are offering our fans and followers the chance to make a difference in their community or to support a cause they find near and dear to their heart. Where would you donate? Tell us.

Ella, Age 5

What meaning does gift giving hold? Most often, we give our loved ones gifts to tangibly express that we care, appreciate, and are thinking about them. With the bombardment of birthdays, holidays, and other occasions where gift giving is “required”, it can be easy to lose sight of the meaning behind this gesture.

During the month of March, with the help of CharityChoice, we want to help remind individuals of the meaning behind gift giving by offering you all the gift of giving.  CharityChoice Gift Cards allows individuals to donate their hard earned dollars to a cause that a family, friend, or loved one finds to be near and dear to their heart.

A little bit more about CharityChoice Gift Cards…

CharityChoice Gift Cards was born in 2004 when Mark Finkel, a board member of our nonprofit organization, wanted to make a charity donation in memory of the recently-deceased father of a business associate. Not knowing what cause was important to the family, he wished to give a charitable gift that allowed the recipient to designate the charity of his/her choice.

Certainly, he thought, such a service for a meaningful gift – allowing the recipient to choose the charity – would be readily available. However, an Internet search wasn’t fruitful in solving Mark’s dilemma. Our next board meeting became the springboard for the website you are visiting today, only two months after it was envisioned!

Our CharityChoice Gift Cards indeed provide a way for all of us to elevate how we do our gift-giving. We hope that we will now make it possible for everyone to add a charitable dimension to their special occasion; by giving a charity gift, whenever …meaningful matters.

Ways To Give

Share Your Story

Gifts need not have a monetary value to be special. In fact, the most important gifts we will receive in life are the people and experiences that shape who we are and touch our lives in a significant way. Share your stories with us on Facebook and inspire others to do good and be thankful.

  • Your stories of people who are making a difference and giving back in their community
  • Your experiences volunteering or helping others
  • The greatest gift you’ll ever receive
  • A personal story about a special and invaluable gift you received
  • An inspiring story about giving
  • A time when you or someone you know made a selfless sacrifice

We will be featuring our favorites on our blog for others to read and enjoy.

Help Us Select Which Charity To Donate $100 To

We will be donating $100 to a charity of your choosing in the name of one of our followers or fans. You can participate in the process by:

  • Twitter: Tweet at us telling us where you would donate it.
  • Facebook: Write on our Facebook wall sharing where and why you think the donation should go.

For a full list of charity options, visit CharityChoice here.

Spread The Word

Remind your friends and family the meaning behind gift giving and inspire others to give back. Tweet it, share it on Facebook, or shout-it from the front porch. The choice is yours. Use the share buttons at the bottom to help us get more people involved in our Gift of Giving campaign.

3 Valentine’s Day Gift Cards That Won’t Get You Dumped

February 8th, 2012 by 1 comment »

Valentine’s Day is marked by the increase in hues of pink and red, soppy heart-shaped treats, and believe it or not, break-ups. According to a Facebook study conducted by David McCandless and a report by Tres Sugar, each year the number of break-ups spikes from January all the way to Spring. To help you avoid getting kicked to the curb on cupid’s big day, we’ve taken the liberty of compiling a list of eGift cards to print that should ensure lovers’ bliss.

3 Gift Cards That Won’t Get You Dumped

1. Spa Gift Certificate

Every girl needs a little R&R once in a while. (Okay, maybe once than ONCE in a while!), so Health & Wellness Gift Cards by SpaWeek should be received well. Services include manicures, pedicures, massages, facials, massages, and more.

Do your sweetie a favor and check to see if there are locations near her. If you really want to go the extra mile (You can do it.), print out the list and highlight the locations on her route to the gym, work, or home. She’ll appreciate that you took the time to make the process convenient for her.

We’re getting a little sales pitchy here, but since they are running a special we should we’d mention it. Gift Cards are 10% until February 14th so save yourself a little dough too.

Coupon: “Happy Valentine’s Day! Get 10% off! Discount applied in shopping cart.”

Insider Info: If you can’t drop the big bucks or would rather grab a gift card for yourself, we are giving away a $100 Health & Wellness SpaWeek Gift Card in time for Valentine’s Day in our LOVE LETTER SWEEPSTAKES on Facebook! Shameless plug. Details here.

2. Romantic Getaway

A romantic getaway should prevent you from singing the single blues come February 15th. A Gift Certificate to will allow for you to select a destination together from one of B&B’s 4,000+ locations in U.S. & Canada. No expiration or fees and no blackout dates.

Now until February 14th, B& is offer 10% gift cards a free box of Godiva chocolates to sweeten the deal. Order early so you have your additional treats in time.

Save 10% + Get Free Godiva Chocolates!

3. Event Tickets

There’s nothing a gal loves more than getting dolled up or down to hit up a concert, Broadway play, or sporting event. A night out on the town or day at the stadium is the ideal gift for someone who enjoys spending time with you (We’re assuming they think you’re okay since you’ve nabbed them as your Valentine.). Choose from plays, sporting events, comedians, concerts, and more. Although giving a gift certificate to TicketsNow runs the risk of seeming impersonal, you can make it more unique by printing out the events you had considered and circling the ones you thought looked the most interesting. Tell your gal you wanted to decide together which event would be the most enoyable for you both.

3 Gift Certificates That You Should Avoid at All Costs

Tired of being tied down? Want to live the single life on the soppiest Hallmark holiday of the year? Well, then we’ve got the cure for your cabin fever that will leave you doing cupid’s shuffle all the way to the dog house. Check out our 3 Gift Certificates that will pretty much guarantee a strained relationship.

1. A Diet System or Weight Loss Plan Gift Certificate

I don’t think we need to explain this one.

2. A Gym Membership

Nothing says “You Are Special” like letting your honey know you feel as though it would be in their best interest to hit the gym. You may just think you are urging your lady to live a healthy lifestyle, but Valentine’s Day is not the optimal time to go all Livestrong on her butt.

3. A Gift Certificate to that Shady Looking Chinese Restaurant Down The Street

Mur. This illustrates a lack of effort. She doesn’t even like Chinese that much and even if she did, she doesn’t want to eat at that one star joint. Steer clear of giving gifts that make it appear as though you forgot her or didn’t put much thought into picking something out. If her idea of “camping” is staying at a Holiday Inn or if she’d rather hunt for a killer pair of Mary-janes than hike up a mountain, Valentine’s Day is not the time to try to lobby for your hobbies.

Stereotypical Valentine’s Day Posts: What does your Facebook Update Say About you?

January 30th, 2012 by No comments »

It’s Valentine’s Day. A day to eat upwards of five pounds of chocolate shamelessly, to express your affection with an economical arrangement of flowers from Walgreens and to pretend that what you wanted most from your significant other was in fact that stuffed giraffe holding a heart. Today more than 150 million Valentine’s Day cards will be en route to special someones across the globe, at least 15 percent of women will send themselves roses, and three percent of pet owners will ask Fido to be their valentine. But most obviously, today will welcome an incessant stream of Valentine’s chatter on all social media platforms—from both lovers and loathers of romance.

Social networks have become the ultimate arena for the initiation, bliss and very public cyber demise of so many relationships. The influence of networks like Facebook and Twitter on relationships is so profound, that even marriages are affected. In the UK, law firms have actually reported that Facebook flirtations were cited in 33 percent of unreasonable behavior petitions in divorce cases. Yikes. So imagine the attention given to Facebook and other social networks on this most romantic of days. We can only assume the Web will be exploding with hearts and smileys, nauseating statuses, bitter tweets and jealous holiday stalking efforts. For that reason, we’ve come up with a list of stereotypical Valentine’s Day posts and what they can tell you about a person. So, if nothing else, Valentine’s Day will offer you a satirical psychological understanding of your social network.

The Lover

“Happy Valentine’s Day to my boo boo bear! <3 XOXO”

The lover has a simple goal—To wish his or her boo boo bear a magical Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, subsequent effects include widespread nausea, eye rolling and defriendation.

The Hater

“Who honestly gets a bouquet of roses delivered to work anyway? #hopehecallsmetonight”

This person hates Valentine’s Day for no other reason than the fact that “he” hates Valentine’s Day. Behind the roses-are-dumb façade, she really wants a dozen, a hot date and probably a diamond bracelet too. #hopeyoumadeotherplans

The Spoiled Rotten

“I have the best boyfrand EVER.”

Her boyfriend surprised her with a life-sized teddy bear holding a diamond-encrusted box of chocolates shaped like roses with a poem transcribed on each petal. All delivered by a diapered man with a bow and arrow.

The Unoriginal

“She said YES!”

He thought he was the most romantic human being alive to propose on Valentine’s Day.

The Disappointed

“I can’t believe I said yes.”

She thought he was the most banal human being alive to propose on Valentine’s Day.

The Victim

“It’s Valentine’s Day. I guess I’ll rearrange the spice rack and fold my socks again.”

The victim typically announces on this day how absolutely dreadful their life is. Don’t show up to their pity party. Instead, say something like “Way to go, Karen! You are such a productive person.”

The Possessive

“I (insert full name) love you, (insert full name)! I’m so glad you’re mine and only mine, mine, mine.”

The possessive will not only post this status, they will write it again on their significant other’s wall. Then they will refresh their Facebook page until the post is reciprocated and craft voodoo dolls of every person tagged in a picture with their beloved.

The Oblivious

“Should I have enchiladas for dinner? Or grilled cheese?”

This person is entirely unaware of Valentine’s Day and is intermittently watching The Office, clipping his toenails and Facebooking.

The Rebel

“Today I’m going to pinch everyone wearing pink, burn all of my valentines and yell at puppies.”

The rebel is notorious for making a big deal out of those that make a big deal of Valentine’s Day. This person probably once liked the holiday until a childhood classmate refused his valentine gift of playground ants.

The Suck-up

“I didn’t even realize it was Valentine’s Day, because every day with you is like Valentine’s Day.”

The suck-up is only effective if the receiver of their message does not burst into a fit of unbelieving laughter…which is laughable itself. This never works, and the suck-up ends up enjoying grilled cheese with captain oblivious.

So whether or not you’re rebellious, uncreative, unaware or even possessive, you post that Valentine’s Day status. Just cross your fingers to have friends afterward.

8 Holidays In April You Probably Didn’t Know About

April 8th, 2011 by 5 comments »

April showers bring May flowers. April Come She Did. April Fool’s Day. Or as Frank put it, “April in Paris, this is a feeling / That no one can ever reprise.” If you can’t make it to Paris this month, fret not, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate the fact that spring has sprung (or is on its way to springing if you live in the Midwest like us).

What goes down in the month of April? Fools run amok. There’s pastel colored treats and baskets of bunnies and dyed eggs galore. There’s certainly more days to whip out your galoshes and sassy storm gear. We know this much about the month of April, but a quick survey of the office demonstrates how little we know about the other awesome holidays taking place this month. We’ve already missed a few, but in the event you wanted to a purchase your loved ones gifts for these rare occasions, we’ve compiled a list of the top 10 most awesome holidays taking place in the Month of April. Get ready for the craziness because we’re pretty sure you haven’t heard of these gems:

April 8th: Draw a Picture of a Bird Day – We’re baffled by how or why this became a holiday, but apparently today is Draw a Picture of a Bird Day. If you wanted to invest in an eGift card for a special someone today, we recommend Dick Blick’s Art Supplies. You know, for crayons and paper and such to allow your loved one to construct the most artful bird possible. We don’t kid about eGift cards.

April 11th: Eight Track Tape Day – Huh? What’s that? Just kidding. We remember those. Kind of. This day celebrates the invention of the eight track tape which many of us relied on to listen to sweet melodies before cassettes, CDs, and then digital downloads. Because we’re fans of all things eco-friendly here at, we are going to recommend you head over to iTunes and purchase iTunes gift cards for your pals so they can listen to their fave music. The eight track tape will understand.

April 13th: Scrabble Day – This one we can understand because Scrabble is a classic family pass time and definitely on our list of favorites board games. This day in April celebrates the popular board game, Scrabble. FYI, Scrabble was created in 1938 by Alfred Mosher Butts. Celebrate this wordy holiday with a game of Scrabble, get it on Amazon.

April 14th: Look Up At The Sky Day – Make sure it is still there. Make sure nothing is going to fall on your head. Just kidding! April 14th marks the day each year we are directed to gaze up at the wide open sky. If you’re going to make the most of this rare occasion, we recommend getting your loved ones a Bass Pro Shop gift certificate to pick from the array of high quality binoculars they offer so that they can accurately see what’s going on up there. You’re welcome.

April 15th: Rubber Eraser Day - This monumental occasion celebrates the invention of the rubber eraser. According to Holiday Insights, there’s two reasons why we don’t just dub this holiday “Eraser Day”: 1. Erasers were made of rubber. Today, they are made of rubber or vinyl. 2. In England, they were formally called “rubbers”. We’re going to try to be mature and not poke fun at that. If you want to live it up in office supplies style on this day, get a eGift card to let them stock up on rubber erasers.

April 17th: Blah, Blah, Blah Day – The 17th of April marks Blah, Blah, Blah Day. No, not the Ke$ha song. Blah, Blah, Blah day is the one day a year dedicated to doing all of the things that people have been repeatedly asking you to do or that you’ve been putting off.  According to Holiday Insights, Blah, Blah, Blah Day is a copyrighted holiday. It was created and is provided by the people over at We recommend a Home Depot eGift card for those home projects you’ve been meaning to get done.

April 22nd: National High Five Day - WOO! HIGH FIVE! Make sure your hands are clean before you go around swapping hand sweat with strangers. Take some preventative measures and buy your pals gift certificates to stock up on antibacterial, vitamins, and band-aids for the high fives gone awry.

April 25th: World Penguin Day – Celebrate our flightless friends by wattling on over to Barnes & Noble and grabbing a book on these wonderful little creatures.

April 26th: Hug An Australian Day - Well, go ahead. Hug one. If by chance you are unable to locate an Aussie, why not just hug your Uggs? Ugg boots, that is. Get your pals an eGift certificate to Ugg Australia and let them cling to their fuzzy, warm boots. FYI, Hug an Australian Day is a copyrighted holiday ceated and is provided by

There you have it. Our complete gift guide for the month of April. Don’t fancy our gift ideas? Comment and share yours!
