Self-Improvement September

SelfImprovementMonth-300x253Now that Labor Day has come and gone signaling the unofficial end of summer, many of us are back into the full swing of school, work and schedule cramming. This time of year brings less sunlight, colder temps and can make balancing everything seem a bit overwhelming and can leave a lot of people feeling less motivated. The good news? September is filled with events and awareness to help us power through this transitional month and kick-start productive season.

National Self-Improvement Month

Why wait until New Year’s to start something better for yourself? September is your chance to start brainstorming some resolutions and get back on track for achieving your goals. The problem with a New Year’s resolution is that it can often be vague and the goals are not clearly defined. One acronym to keep in your head for any type of goal, not just self-improvement, is S.M.A.R.T (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound). Having this in mind helps us keep momentum. So next time instead of having ‘lose weight’ as your goal, try ‘I will burn 1,000 calories through exercise by the end of this week.’ This way you can build off smaller goals, stay organized, and having clear steps makes it easier to keep track of how you’re doing.

What Does Mom Really Want?

May 5th, 2015 by GiftZip.com No comments »

mothers-dayAlthough you shouldn’t wait one day out of the year to appreciate your mom, this is the day you can go above and beyond to show her how great she really is. Sometimes all moms want is a chance to relax and enjoy what really matters: being with family.  Here are some simple, but not simplistic, ideas to help say thanks.

Give her a break

Moms are often in charge of keeping everything in check. Clean house, happy kids, folded laundry, and keeping track of where you put your keys. This time let her be the one who gets to relax for the day. Whether that’s lending a hand with the chores, playing taxi for your siblings, or simply just making sure your mom can stay in bed past 7 a.m., it’s the little things that will matter the most. Get in the habit of making these regular duties instead of just a holiday occasion.

You don’t want to go too overboard, but you also want something meaningful at the same time. Here’s some do’s and don’ts of Valentines Day’s gift shopping:

The Future of Shopping: What to watch for in 2015

January 6th, 2015 by GiftZip.com No comments »

Shopping Cart

Now that the holiday shopping season of 2014 is over, what shopping changes can we expect in 2015? 2014 was a transitional period for the retail industry. In the last 3 years, the mobile market has taken off.  Just in the past year, online shopping has increased by 27%. Now e-commerce composes more than 10% of all retail sales. It’s estimated to rise to 30% in 2018. That’s good for us consumers right? It’s more convenient, you don’t have to leave your home, no holiday traffic, and most of the time you end up finding better deals online that you do in the store. But is it as good as it sounds? Yes and no. Because of shipping and packaging costs, as well as higher rates of returns, some retailers end up losing money online. Costs can run as high as 25% of sales for retailers that outsource their e-commerce operations. Some companies have tried to save costs by imposing a minimum purchase amount for online orders. Others have tried to hike shipping costs. Regardless of costs, online shopping is rapidly growing and this means that retailers are trying harder than ever to perfect e-commerce to be cost efficient for all of us. With new features like Apple Pay and mobile PayPal, things will only continue to get easier in 2015. » Read more: The Future of Shopping: What to watch for in 2015
